Blog 8: A subject you enjoyed studying this semester

Hi everyone! Today I´m going to talk about  a subject I enjoyed studying this semester. A subject I enjoyed a lot in university was "Problematización e intervención urbano territorial",  In this course, I saw various urban planning actors who explained different ways of seeing the city and, above all, the interactions of people in it. Jane Jacobs is a very important activist in urban planning, she has a book entitled "Death and life of big cities" in which she defends the human scale and harshly criticizes modernist cities that are developed with large buildings and roads since they do not respond to the needs of the person, they are cold and unsafe cities. She worries about the life and safety of the neighborhood, studies social behaviors and the ties that can be formed with the place. His way of investigating life in cities is very interesting, since it is very microscopic. For example, she argues that a better city is one that allows diversity of uses in a place...

Hi everyone! Today I´m going to talk about two websites that related with my career. First:  http://officekgdvs.com/projects/#office-130 The OFFICE is an architecture team that designs projects.  I really like the page as it helps me find inspiration when I want to represent a project   The design of the page is minimalist and has many publications, where you can find renders, photomontages, cuts, plants, axonometric and descriptions of a project. The projects are very interesting and beautiful, they create a good set of materialities, designs, colors, scales, etc. SUR TIERRA is an architecture team that I discovered recently and works with the earth, the page shows how adobe houses and different designs are built. and the final link: http://www.surtierraarquitectura.cl/category/casas/ For me, it is very interesting to work with adobe, I feel that it is a very good material and for example, adobe is less polluting than than concrete . Also, its color or texture is very sp...

Blog 6: How Can Your Major/Career Make the World a Better Place

Imagen
Hello everybody! Today I'm going to talk about how architecture makes the world a better place. Architecture is very important as it is responsible for creating livable spaces for people where they can live and interact with others. It helps each person feel safe and protected, for example inside their home, worrying about factors such as lighting, ventilation, etc. and therefore improving their quality of life. Also on a larger scale, architecture can help achieve a more environmentally friendly world by designing more sustainable cities or implementing building systems with less environmental impact. Architecture influences the image of the place where we live, greener landscapes that are related to the human dimension will always contribute to a healthier and more empathetic environment.
